Profiles of Candidates in the 2024 Arizona Senate Race

Top Contenders for Arizona’s United States Senate Race in 2024

The race for Arizona’s United States Senate seat in 2024 is heating up, with three frontrunners emerging as potential candidates. Republicans Kari Lake and Mark Lamb, along with Democrat Ruben Gallego, are vying for the opportunity to represent the state in the Senate.

Ruben Gallego, a Democrat who has served in the House of Representatives since 2014, is known for his advocacy for human rights, particularly for migrants seeking asylum at the border. He has also championed legislation to protect Native American children from abuse and to provide more funding for veteran education. However, Gallego has faced criticism for a trip to Qatar and controversial statements regarding Russian students in the US.

Kari Lake, a former Republican gubernatorial candidate and television news anchor, has aligned herself with former President Donald Trump and has received his endorsement. She has been vocal about her anti-abortion stance and has expressed a desire to regulate the procedure at the state level. Despite her lack of political experience, Lake believes she can bring a fresh perspective to the Senate.

Mark Lamb, the current Pinal County Sheriff, has gained national attention for his far-right political views, including his support for border militarization and opposition to abortion. Lamb has been a vocal critic of Biden’s immigration policies and has refused to enforce COVID-19 quarantine orders. He has also authored a book promoting traditional values and advocating for local jurisdiction over state and federal laws.

The Arizona election ballot in November will feature the winners of the primary held in August, with independent candidates having the opportunity to gather enough signatures to appear on the general election ballot. As the race heats up, voters will have the opportunity to choose their next Senator from a diverse pool of candidates.
