Kari Lake’s attempt to ban ballot counting machines rejected by U.S. Supreme Court

U.S. Supreme Court Denies Kari Lake’s Request to Take Up Ballot Tabulator Case

The U.S. Supreme Court has made a final decision regarding Kari Lake’s request to take up her ballot tabulator case, ultimately denying her petition. This case aimed to stop the use of electronic ballot tabulators in Arizona to count millions of ballots. The highest court in the nation did not provide any comment when it denied Lake’s petition on Monday.

Lake, along with fellow Republican Mark Finchem, initially filed the suit in April 2022, alleging that the electronic ballot tabulators used in Maricopa and Pima counties were “hackable.” They sought an injunction to stop the use of these machines and instead have all ballots counted by hand ahead of the November 2022 election. However, U.S. District Court Judge John Tuchi threw out the lawsuit in August 2022, issuing sanctions against the attorneys involved for making “conjectural allegations of potential injuries.”

The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals later concurred with Tuchi’s decision, calling the case “frivolous.” Despite Lake and Finchem’s claims of election fraud and maladministration, judges found no evidence to support their allegations. The Supreme Court’s denial of Lake’s petition marks the end of her legal battle in this case.

The Arizona Republican Party, along with other state Republican parties, supported Lake in her petition to the Supreme Court, urging the court to take up the case. However, legal experts did not expect the high court to hear the case, citing the speculative and conspiratorial nature of the allegations made by Lake and Finchem.

With the Supreme Court’s decision, the case has come to a close, and Lake’s efforts to challenge the use of electronic ballot tabulators in Arizona have been unsuccessful.
