Kari Lake Continues Fight for Arizona Governor’s Election Case in State Court of Appeals

Former Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake is not giving up on her quest for a do-over of the 2022 election, where she lost to Democrat Katie Hobbs. Lake’s attorney, Kurt Olsen, presented new evidence to the state Court of Appeals, alleging that Maricopa County election officials conducted unannounced tests on vote-counting equipment that they knew would fail on Election Day.

Olsen argued that the county’s election director provided false testimony and that the judge in Lake’s election contest lawsuit improperly discounted crucial evidence. He claimed that problems with ballot printers and vote tabulators led to long lines and chaos at polling places, causing many Republican voters to leave and casting doubt on the election results.

Deputy Maricopa County Attorney Thomas Liddy dismissed these claims as “hogwash,” stating that all ballots were counted and no lawful ballot was rejected. He accused Lake’s legal team of attempting to shift the focus from their original claim of hacked ballot printers to new allegations about tabulator issues.

The Court of Appeals must now determine whether the trial judge erred in rejecting Lake’s bid for a new trial. Despite Olsen’s arguments, Liddy emphasized that even if all of Lake’s claims were accepted, she still trailed Hobbs by over 17,000 votes.

The judges will consider the arguments presented and issue a ruling in the coming days. Lake’s fight for a new election continues, but the outcome remains uncertain as the legal battle unfolds in the Arizona courts.
