Ian Cain, a Republican candidate, challenges Elizabeth Warren for US Senate seat

Massachusetts State Primary 2024: Key Dates and Election Information

The race for the U.S. Senate seat in Massachusetts is heating up as City Council President Ian Cain announced his run to unseat two-term Democrat Elizabeth Warren. Cain, who recently switched parties to become a Republican, is positioning himself as a new generation of leadership focused on collaboration and results.

In a video message announcing his campaign, Cain sharply criticized Warren, accusing her of letting politics stand in the way of progress on important issues. In response, a spokesperson for the Warren campaign highlighted the Senator’s legislative accomplishments and commitment to working hard for Massachusetts families.

Cain, who was sworn in as Quincy’s first Black and openly gay council president earlier this year, has a background in politics and entrepreneurship. He founded QUBIC Labs, a nonprofit incubator for blockchain technology startups, and has previous experience working for Massachusetts Democrat Stephen Lynch.

Cain will be joining Swansea Republican John Deaton in the race to unseat Warren in the upcoming primary election on Sept. 3. Key dates to remember for the election include the voter registration deadline on Aug. 24, the last day for changing party affiliation, and the start of early voting on Aug. 26.
