House Vote on Funding for Ukraine, Israel, Gaza, and Other Countries

House Passes $95 Billion Foreign Aid Package with Measures on TikTok, Indo-Pacific, Ukraine, and Israel

The House on Saturday passed a $95 billion foreign aid package brought by House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), defying the right flank of his party. The package includes four bills aimed at addressing various global issues.

One of the bills includes a measure that could force TikTok to cut ties with its parent company or face a nationwide ban. Another bill allocates $8.1 billion in funding to the Indo-Pacific region to counter China’s influence. Additionally, $60 billion in aid is designated for Ukraine, and $17 billion in offensive and defensive weapons are earmarked for Israel, along with over $9 billion in humanitarian aid for Gaza and other regions.

A simple majority of 216 votes was needed to pass each bill. The package will now move to the Senate for further consideration before reaching President Biden, who has endorsed the package.

Notably, a fifth bill focused on Republican priorities for border security failed to pass in the House, as it required a two-thirds majority vote. This bill aimed to limit migrants entering the United States and secure the U.S.-Mexico border.

The foreign aid package reflects a mix of bipartisan and contentious issues, highlighting the complexities of international relations and domestic policy. The Senate will now have to weigh in on the bills before they can be sent to the President for final approval.
