Former Members of Parliament aiming for a return in the upcoming election

Former Labour MP Douglas Alexander Hopes to Return to Westminster

Former Labour MP Douglas Alexander is making a comeback to Westminster, hoping to secure a seat in East Lothian in the upcoming general election. Alexander, who lost his seat in 2015 to Mhairi Black, is one of the few former MPs with government experience seeking to return to Parliament.

With the SNP MP standing down, Alexander sees an opportunity to make a difference and contribute to Labour’s resurgence in Scotland. Despite not missing the “brutality of social media,” he believes that his experience could be valuable to Sir Keir Starmer’s shadow cabinet if Labour wins the election.

Joining Alexander in the comeback bid are other former MPs from various parties, including Conservative Luke Graham and Labour’s Heidi Alexander. Heidi Alexander, who left Westminster in 2018 to work at City Hall, felt a sense of unfinished business and decided to stand again in South Swindon, a key battleground for Labour.

The decision to return to politics is not taken lightly, as concerns about safety and the impact on family life weigh heavily on the candidates. However, the desire to make a difference and contribute to shaping the future of the country drives these former MPs to take the risk and seek re-election.

As the election season heats up, the competition in constituencies across the UK is intensifying, with candidates from different parties vying for a chance to represent their constituents in Parliament. The stage is set for a dynamic and engaging election campaign, with familiar faces and new contenders battling it out for a seat in Westminster.
