Election agency scrutinizes Arizona Senate candidate’s spending on ‘campaign attire’

Federal Election Commission Questions Arizona Senate Candidate Mark Lamb’s Campaign Spending on “Campaign Attire”

The Federal Election Commission has raised concerns about Arizona Senate candidate Mark Lamb’s campaign spending nearly $28,000 on “campaign attire.” The FEC sent two letters to Lamb’s campaign, questioning the nature of the purchases and asking for clarification.

Lamb, a Republican sheriff of Pinal County, is vying for the Senate seat currently held by Sen. Kyrsten Sinema. His campaign priorities include securing the border, combating the flow of fentanyl, supporting law enforcement, and protecting gun rights.

The FEC highlighted five separate purchases of “campaign attire” from a vendor named Revi, totaling $27,935. Revi is reportedly operating out of a residential address in Gilbert, Arizona. The FEC has requested the campaign treasurer to review the spending and provide clarification on whether the purchases were for personal use.

Using campaign funds for personal use is illegal, according to the FEC. While candidates can purchase clothing of minimal value for campaign purposes, using funds for personal attire is prohibited.

Shanna Ports, a senior legal counsel for the Campaign Legal Center, emphasized the need for clarity from Lamb’s campaign regarding the nature of the purchases. The campaign has until November 24 to respond to the FEC’s inquiries.

Despite attempts to reach out for comment, Lamb has not responded. In the past, he has offered signed cowboy hats from his personal collection to supporters and sells campaign merchandise on his website.

The FEC’s scrutiny of Lamb’s campaign spending adds a new dimension to the Arizona Senate race, raising questions about the permissible use of campaign funds and the transparency of political expenditures.
