Contrasting Candidates Emerge in Wisconsin Senate Race

Senate Race in Wisconsin: A Closer Look at Campaign Finances and Grassroots Support

The battle for Senate in Wisconsin is heating up as incumbent Democrat Tammy Baldwin takes an early lead in fundraising over Republican challenger Eric Hovde. Campaign finance reports show that Baldwin has received more than $10 million in donations, with an average contribution of $52.06, while Hovde raised about a million dollars from donors and loaned his campaign $8 million, with an average contribution of $218.20.

The analysis by Open Secrets also reveals that Baldwin’s top donor zip codes are in Wisconsin, while Hovde’s are in California, Texas, Florida, and Illinois, before Wisconsin even makes the list. This indicates a nationalized race with control of the Senate possibly at stake.

Both campaigns are claiming to have grassroots support, with Hovde’s spokesman highlighting support from “thousands of grassroots Wisconsinites” and Baldwin’s campaign emphasizing support from grassroots donors across all 72 counties in Wisconsin.

As the race continues, all eyes are on these swing states, with a clearer comparison of each candidate’s fundraising expected in the second quarter of the year.
