Blinken informs CNN that the US has observed signs of China trying to influence upcoming US elections

US Secretary of State Blinken accuses China of election interference: CNN报道

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has raised concerns about Chinese attempts to influence and interfere with the upcoming US elections, despite earlier commitments from Chinese leader Xi Jinping not to do so. Blinken made these comments during an interview with CNN’s Kylie Atwood at the end of his three-day trip to China, where he met with top Chinese officials, including Xi.

Blinken reiterated President Joe Biden’s message to Xi last November, urging China not to interfere in the 2024 US presidential elections. However, Blinken stated that the US has seen evidence of Chinese attempts to influence and interfere, prompting the need to cut off such activities quickly.

The Secretary of State also addressed China’s support for Russia’s defense industrial base, warning that further action would be taken by the US if such support continues. He emphasized the importance of cooperation between the two countries while being forthright about their differences to avoid conflict.

In addition to discussing election interference and China’s support for Russia, Blinken also defended the right to protest in the US, particularly in light of recent pro-Palestinian protests on college campuses. He stated that protests are a legitimate form of expression in a democracy, but acknowledged instances of clear expressions of antisemitism at some gatherings.

Regarding the conflict in Gaza, Blinken stated that it was up to Hamas to decide on a ceasefire, and he expressed hope that tensions in the region were alleviating. He also mentioned the possibility of a framework for normalization of relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia, along with a two-state solution proposal for Israel and the Palestinians.

Overall, Blinken’s trip to China highlighted the complex and contentious issues between the US and China, from election interference to support for Russia and the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The Secretary of State emphasized the importance of addressing these issues while working towards cooperation and understanding between the two nations.
